Vivo Z1 Pro Review

Vivo Z1 Pro Review

Vivo Z1 Pro Review

We are going to review the Vivo Z1 Pro but it remains to be seen whether this smartphone can make its place in our list of best smartphones available for less than Rs 20,000.

Vivo is a big smartphone brand in India and after making its presence in the offline market, the company is now focusing on the online market. Vivo has recently launched its latest smartphone Voiv Z1 Pro in India which will be sold only on the e-commerce site Flipkart. This new and latest smartphone of Vivo has been specially made for Zen Jade customers who want the latest look and good features in the phone. The Vivo Z1 Pro is equipped with a good camera, battery life and good processing power for gaming.

It seems that Vivo has studied the current market trends well to design the Vivo Z1 Pro. Will this smartphone of Vivo brand be able to compete with Xiaomi, Realme and Samsung phones, it will be a matter to be seen. Today we will review the Vivo Z1 Pro and it will also be seen whether the Vivo Z1 Pro is able to make its place in our list of the best smartphones available for less than Rs 20,000.

Vivo Z1 Pro design

The first thing you will notice by looking at the front panel of Vivo Z1 Pro is its oversized screen. There is a hole on the left side of the screen in which the front camera has got space. The camera hole is not big enough nor does it distract you while using the phone throughout the day. Our Vivo Z1 Pro review unit sent by Vivo had a screen protector mounted. Plastic film marks are used even on normal use of the phone.

The Vivo Z1 Pro has an attractive glossy plastic rear panel that comes with a multi-color gradient finish. The color of our review unit is sonic blue and its back panel has Emerald Green on the top, which combines with Cobalt Blue. Colors are saturated, as well as the effect is seen when light falls on its back panel.

The design of the front and back panels of Vivo Z1 Pro attracts attention. Not only this, you will also get a fingerprint sensor for security on the back panel of the phone. The power and volume buttons will be found on the right side of the phone and the SIM and microSD card tray on the left side of the phone. Just below this is the Google Assistant button.

The Vivo Z1 Pro has two nano-SIM slots and a separate microSD card slot. The Google Assistant button cannot be assigned to other functions. We were disappointed that Vivo is still giving micro-USB port to its latest smartphone such as Vivo Z1 Pro. There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack and speaker grill at the bottom of the phone.

The Vivo Z1 Pro has a look of the Vivo Y17, which is equipped with the same dimensions and styling. The Vivo Z1 Pro weighs a little over 201 grams but its thickness is 8.85 millimeters. In the retail box you get a flexible plastic case, an 18 watt heavy charger, a micro-USB cable, 3.5mm wired headset, SIM eject pins and some pamphlets.

Vivo Z1 Pro specification and software

The Vivo Z1 Pro is the first phone in India to be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 processor. This chipset was introduced earlier this year as an improvement from the Snapdragon 710 processor and is based on a 10nm processor. It has six 1.7 GHz Kryo 360 Silver cores for capacity and two 2.3 GHz Kryo 360 Gold cores for power.

It has been integrated with Adreno 616 and X15 LTE modem for graphics. It is being said that this new chipset offers up to 10 percent better performance than Snapdragon 710 and 25 percent better performance than Snapdragon 660. The initial price of Vivo Z1 Pro is Rs 14,990. At this price, variants with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage will be available.

The phone's 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage model will be sold for Rs 16,990. The most powerful variant is equipped with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage and will be sold for Rs 17,990. The Vivo Z1 Pro has a 6.53-inch full-HD + (1080x2340 pixels) IPS display. The battery of Vivo Z1 Pro is 5,000 mAh and it supports 18 Watt fast charging.

The company's own dual-engine fast charging technology has been used in this phone of Vivo brand. Apart from this, dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth version 5, GPS support is included but you will not get NFC and FM radio. Apart from all the common sensors, the Vivo Z1 Pro also includes a gyroscope and e-compass.

Vivo's phones run on Funtouch OS, which is very heavy modified for Android 9. The main feature of the Funtouch OS is the game enhancement that Vivo has named the game mode but it has also been called Game Cube and Game Box at different places in the UI. This includes special optimization for PUBG Mobile.

Apart from this there is 4D Vibration as well you will be able to enjoy 3D surround sound. Vivo Z1 Pro has a countdown feature with the help of which you will be able to do other things till your next round comes. The Vivo Z1 Pro has an esports mode that will shut down all apps running in the background, as well as disable temperature throttling to block notifications and increase performance. According to Vivo, future updates will add more features including voice chat filters to the Vivo Z1 Pro.

Vivo Z1 Pro's performance, battery life, and cameras

Due to increasing competition, one thing is good that smartphones are being launched at a lower price, this is because today they have enough power to use budget smartphones every day. We did not slow down the phone while using Vivo Z1 Pro. After heavy modification, there was no performance problem in Funtouch OS.

We have 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage variants of Vivo Z1 Pro for review. The display of Vivo Z1 Pro is very sharp and clear in all circumstances. The viewing angles of the phone are also good, but we think some people will find that colors are not as vivid as those on phones with AMOLED panels.

You can adjust color temperature and a system-wide dark mode is also provided, although not all third-party apps recognize it. The status bar at the top of the screen is quite thick which surrounds the front camera hole when using the FunTouch OS UI and apps that do not come full-screen.

We found it a bit disturbing when watching the video on Vivo Z1 Pro. Quick Diagnostic revealed that the phone only supports Widevine L3 DRM, which means you will not be able to stream HD content on Netflix. The single speaker at the bottom of the phone makes the sound quite loud, but it starts distorting in loud voice.

The headset that comes with the phone looks like Apple earpods but the sound is only fine for calls. On paper, the Snapdragon 712 processor gives the Slight Edge to the Vivo Z1 Pro and at this price it can be attractive to customers who need the latest specification at this price. But it is difficult to tell at the moment how much difference it makes on everyday use.

If compared to Realme 3 Pro (review) and Oppo R17 Pro (review), then both smartphones have used Snapdragon 710 processor. The CPU-heavy benchmark score is substantially higher while there is a slight improvement in the GPU-focused test. The camera dot does not interfere during full-screen gaming as it was almost always covered by our thumbs.

Both PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9: Legends played smooth on high settings. For the information of you people, let us know that the phone was only slightly heated. The battery life of Vivo Z1 Pro was also very good. We were able to use the Vivo Z1 Pro for more than a day and a half and it involves using 4G data, streaming some videos, taking lots of pictures and playing games for about an hour.

In our HD video loop test, Vivo Z1 Pro supported for 18 hours and 32 minutes. The Vivo Z1 Pro's upcoming 18 watt charger is very fast and we were surprised to see the Vivo dual engine fast charging even with the third party charger. However, this phone heats up when the phone is charged fast.

Vivo Z1 Pro is equipped with three rear cameras. On the back side is a 16-megapixel primary sensor with an F / 1.78 lens, an 8-megapixel secondary sensor with a 120-degree super wide angle lens, and a 2-megapixel third sensor. There is a 32 megapixel sensor for selfie enthusiasts. Its aperture is F / 2.0.

Camera features like AI filters, backlight HDR, portrait bokeh, portrait light effects, AI stickers, AI beauty and live photos are part of this phone. If we talk about Vivo's camera app UI, the button to switch between the primary and wide-angle camera is small. Apart from this, instead of providing portrait mode for the depth effect, a separate button has been given.

In video mode, options like slow-motion and time laps are hidden in the menu. We were very impressed with the pictures taken with Vivo Z1 Pro. Colors in photos came good and detail in the focus area was also captured well. In most cases, natural and orertial texture looks good. Wide-angle shots with secondary rear cameras were much less crisp and looked over-processed. There was also a slight warping on the sides of the frame.

After enabling the depth effect, we were able to take some good pictures with smooth background blur, although edge detection was not perfect at all times. You can adjust the level of blur even after taking a shot by going to Vivo's album app. Pictures taken at night also came out good. Noise was also in control and Colors was also well captured. But as expected, there was some blur in the picture with the moving object.

Let us know that the boy default video is recorded at 1280x720 and a few grains are seen at this resolution. You can shoot video from 30fps to 4K with Vivo Z1 Pro. Vivo has not said anything about the video stabilization in the specification sheet of the phone. You cannot switch between standard and wide-angle lenses while shooting video. Pictures taken with the front camera also came out good. You will not get the depth effect or portrait mode, but you can apply lighting effects which are somewhat like subtal filters.

Our decision

Overall, Vivo has done a great job with its latest Z1 Pro. When we reviewed Vivo Y17 some time ago, we said that it seemed outclassed according to the price. This phone has almost every feature that is required while using it throughout the day. Its selling point is that Vivo Z1 Pro is equipped with a hole-punch selfie camera and three rear cameras, priced below Rs 20,000.

In view of the competition in the smartphone, Vivo has given good specifications and we did not feel that there is any feature left in the phone that other handset companies are providing. Vivo Z1 Pro is a strong all-rounder and this smartphone can definitely be considered if you are from Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro (review), Samsung Galaxy M40 (review), Galaxy A50 (review) or Realme 3 Pro If you are thinking of buying someone. However, Vivo Z1 Pro has scored quite well in performance and battery life and is equipped with a large display and modern punch-hole camera.
