Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema. President Ramnath Kovind awarded the highest film honor of the century to the great hero of the century. Amitabh Bachchan was to receive the honor at the National Film Awards ceremony on Monday, but 77-year-old actor could not attend the ceremony due to ill-health. Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar had announced that President Bachchan would be honored with this award in a special ceremony on Sunday. Under the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, cash of ten lakh rupees, gold lotus medal and a shawl are provided.

Amitabh Bachchan remained at the top in his film career of five decades and surprised his fans through memorable work in films. Born in 1942 at the home of renowned Hindi poets Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan, Bachchan started his career as an actor with the film 'Saat Hindustani'. Earlier, Amitabh Bachchan has been awarded Padma Shri in 1984, Padma Bhushan in 2001 and Padma Vibhushan in 2015 for his contribution.
