India has once again launched a major cyber surgical strike on China. The central government has banned 54 Chinese apps that pose a threat to national security. It also includes popular apps like Beauty Camera and Sweet Selfie HD.

The list of banned apps includes Selfie Camera, Equalizer & Bass Booster, Cam Card for Selfforce Ant, Iceland 2: Ashes of Time Light, Vaiva Video Editor, Tencent Xerivar, Onmoji Chess, Onmoji Arena, App Lock and Dual Space.

Users' data was leaked

According to sources, the government has also banned apps that were previously clones of banned apps, meaning that the apps have been renamed and relaunched in India. Most of these apps are either working on suspicious software or sending their data directly to China without the knowledge of the users. The government has previously ordered a ban on such apps.

The Ministry of Electronics and IT has found in its investigation that each of these apps sends data of Indian users to China and other countries. Users' data is also reaching foreign servers through these apps. The government has also ordered the removal of these apps from other platforms, including Google's Play Store.

There have already been 59 Chinese apps

The Indian government had earlier banned Chinese apps on June 29, 2020. The first digital strike on June 29, 2020, banned 59 apps. 47 apps were banned on July 27, 2020, 118 on December 2, 2020 and 43 on November 2020. Thus, the government has banned more than 270 apps since 2020. Each of these apps has been banned under Section 69 (a) of the Information Technology Act.

Free Fire also on the list?

Garena Free Fire has also been missing from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store for the past two days. This suggests that this has also been removed because it is on the list of banned apps. However, no specific information has been received about this yet. There is no word on this from either Garry International or Apple or Google.

The government banned many Chinese apps in 2020, including PUBG Mobile, PUBG Mobile Lite and TikTok. However PUBG Mobile is now operating in India under the name of BGMI.
